Stay: Chateau Vault De Lugny, France

By December 23, 2013 europe, france, stay, travel, travel diary

Before having left Australia in April, I had booked this place for September. I was that keen. And when you see photos, you’ll understand why.

Tucked deep in Burgundy (Bourgogne in French) wine region, Chateau Vault de Lugny will transport you right back to the middle ages.

You will feel just like a lady-in-waiting at court, just begging for the attention of a suitor.

You arrive to a large gate (to keep the commoners out of course) and once you’re through you drive slowly into the property until you reach the front of the chateau where you are greeted by your servants host.

And don’t even think about carrying your bag yourself like a mere peasant, there are men for all of that. I could get used to this.  A wander through Burgundy {Vault de Lugny} - 09

The rooms are decorated much like they would have been in their hey day. Think large wooden beds with ornate golden trimmings, large luxurious tapestries and marble bathtubs… 7.de-lugny

After an afternoon lie down, we popped on down to the basement for dinner.

Dining at the chateau is an unforgettable experience. My daddy kindly bought us dinner for two as an engagement present. And wasn’t it just the perfect gift.

The Menu features regional specialties, served with seasonal produce from the Chateau’s own garden and local farms…

After rising from a delightful sleep we were served breakfast in our rooms. A basket filled with breads and pastries, pots of hot tea & coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice…

The grounds are so large, that an afternoon isn’t enough to cover them, so after eating our full I took my suitor for a stroll in the sun…A wander through Burgundy {Vault de Lugny} - 05A wander through Burgundy {Vault de Lugny} - 17A wander through Burgundy {Vault de Lugny} - 16

I think I would liked to have been born in the middle ages and spent my days strolling grounds such as these and reading poetry by French poets on this seat right here…A wander through Burgundy {Vault de Lugny} - 18A wander through Burgundy {Vault de Lugny} - 20A wander through Burgundy {Vault de Lugny} - 22A wander through Burgundy {Vault de Lugny} - 24A wander through Burgundy {Vault de Lugny} - 23

I was a bit cross because the pool was closed for the weekend… and this is what I missed out on…

Oh well, I guess that means I have to go back!vault-de-lugny

But alas, all fairy tales must end… after 2 delightful nights, we packed up to head to our next destination on our adventures through Burgundy. More to come in the next few days.
