Restaurant Review: Tu Do’s | O’Connor

By February 11, 2014 canberra restaurant reviews, cbr foodie

I am afraid to admit that I have only recently discovered Pho.

Years ago, I even went to Vietnam for and never even tried it. #ohtheshame

But I think I have found Canberra’s best Pho. Or at least it’s damn good. At Tu Do’s in O’Connor.

This cosy Vietnamese restaurant serves traditional Vietnamese meals at very affordable prices. The space is small, and although always busy, I have never had to wait for a table.

My favourite dishes are their Rice paper rolls or this Beef noodle spring roll salad…

The mister’s favourite are these Chicken wings with sweet and sour dipping sauce. He eats them by the dozen(s)…

So whilst catching up with my siblings-in-law (is that a word?) Alanna and Liam, we popped in for a lunchtime Pho. We did have to show these Melbournites what Canberra has to offer after all.

Now, if you haven’t tried Pho before, there is a way to go about it.

First you are served with a plate of bean sprouts, fresh Vietnamese basil, lemon and fresh chilli….

Then comes the steaming bowl of broth with finely sliced rare beef (you can have it with anything you like, but beef is my favourite)…

I like to top mine with bean sprouts and basil first. I always slap the basil between my palms to bring out some of the flavor…

Then on goes the fresh chilli…

And topped with hoi sin sauce and chilli sauce to taste… I like mine with a lot of both…

We had a bit of a Pho-down, where everyone makes their Pho and you taste eachothers and vote on the best. Naturally I won.

So if you’re looking for affordable, tasty and fresh Vietnamese, you won’t be disappointed with Tudo’s.

Oh, and don’t forget your fav bottle of vino, because they’re B.Y.O.

You must be on crack if you think this place is good. Either that or you’re a philistine.
