travel diary: from italian to italy | courmayeur, italy

By February 26, 2014 europe, italy, travel, travel diary

On Saturday, after a long day on the slopes, we were all very tired and very hangry.

Our favourite pizza joint, Casa Valerio, were some what baffled when we rolled in for dinner at 4:30pm.

But we weren’t embarrassed, we had a serious plan. We were going to eat 4 courses over 3 hours.

We started with antipasto…

Followed by pizza…

I love that they bring chilli oil to the table without being asked…

Then we had an assortment of pastas, I went for the seafood penne…

We finished the affair with dessert. This is their home-made Tiramisu…

And the creme brûlée…

Thoroughly stuffed, we took ourselves home to bed and were out by 8pm.

The next morning the mister and I rose early to go parapenting (paragliding). We’ve been waiting almost 3 months to go but the weather has never been just right.

With a perfect day forecast, we headed off up the mountain.Italian & Italy | The Macadame - 14

The beauty of this place never ceases to amaze me.

But sadly the weather can change very quickly; upon arrival it was too windy to fly, so we had to wait it out to see if it cleared.

On the bright side, we had more time to enjoy the view.

This is the ridge where you can ski off to do the Vallee Blanche. Which is a 17km route that starts at 3812m at the Aiguille du Midi lift and finishes either at the Montenvers mountain rail terminus or in Chamonix itself depending on the conditions. This run gives you over 2,800 meters vertical in the amazing scenery of the Mont Blanc range.

I am training to be able to do this before I leave Chamonix.

Unfortunately the wind didnt drop, so after a few more snaps, we headed back down. Even the return trip is beautiful.Italian & Italy | The Macadame - 30

Afterwards we had a most relaxing day which ended with an indulgent raclette. More on that later.

The next day we rose early and headed to Italy for the day, to ski Courmayeur.

Although there was no fresh snow, the weather turned on for us.

After a gorgeous morning exploring the valley, we stopped for lunch.

Could you ask for a better view?

I love this valley because the the food is cheap, fresh and so tasty.

We ordered the minestrone…

And I couldn’t go past the pasta platter where you get to taste the carbonara, penne arrabiata and mushroom fettucine….Italian & Italy | The Macadame - 40

I do like a bit of pasta with my parmesan…Italian & Italy | The Macadame - 41

We skipped dessert as we still had an afternoon of boarding to enjoy.

We went till the last lifts closed and then headed back down in time to have dinner back in France.

      Thanks Beth!

I use 2 cameras. The Fujifilm X-M1 for around town but I recently bought a Canon 6d for food & landscapes. But it’s very heavy so I only take it out on special occasions.
