If you are ever in the Margaret River region and want to find somewhere with delicious wine, generous tastings and puppies – this is the place for you!
My first introduction to this winery was a bottle of 2006 Shiraz at the restaurant at the bunker Bay resort. We loved it so much we went there the very next day and bought a case. We have been some of their best customers ever since.
Cape Naturaliste is the first winery as you travel down Caves Road from Dunsborough down to Margaret River. On arrival you will usually be greeted by one or both of the extremely friendly and adorable dogs: Monty the Jack Russell or Max the rescue dog.
The staff are always super friendly and helpful and as I mentioned above, extremely generous with their tastings.
This is another winery where I would be happy to walk away with any bottle they have to offer but I am always impressed with their yearly shiraz release.
Cape Naturalise have three ranges on offer: the Cape Naturaliste collection (although this is their standard range they are all good wines), their Torpedo Rocks collection (which is a little more expensive than the standard), and their Reserve Collection (recommended for cellaring and special occasions).
We have some Torpedo Rocks and Reserve bottles cellaring at the moment (and cannot wait to open them).
While generally always buying more Shiraz each visit, we also stock up on their 2011 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc ($18) – but usually on special at the cellar door). The other stand out is their Monty’s Fine Old Muscat-Aged 8 Years ($35), which is a perfect after dinner drink with dessert.
I’d love to hear your favourites?
