Best of Borough Markets {London}

Borough Markets | London | The Macadames - 01

Of course a visit to London isn’t complete without a visit to one of the many amazing markets.

Borough Market is a gourmet food market consisting of up to 70 stalls and stands.

Producers from all over the country bring a range of fresh produce to the market, including fish, meats, vegetables, ciders, cheeses, breads, coffees, cakes and patisseries.

It’s literally foodie heaven.

You basically stroll from stall to stall, tasting samples and buying things that take your fancy.

There are soooo many great stores to choose from, but I thought I’d share some of my favourite finds.

The first stall we walked past was The Bath Soft Cheese Co, they have all sorts of house made cheeses and dairy products. My favourite was the “Bath soft” cheese. It was so soft & creamy.

But it was the milkshakes that caught my eye.

I kid you not they were basically ice cream with a dash of milk.

We tried the vanilla and chocolate.

My only complaint would be that it was too small.

Next stop was Monmouth Coffee for our morning caffeine hit. Although the long line can be off-putting, it does move very quickly.

The cafe is hip and cosy. Although you probably won’t be able to get a table, it’s great to grab a take away before heading into the markets.

Definitely get one of these truffles. They were delicious.

Next we spotted Northfield Farm. They were serving Salt Beef Sandwich with Pickles and Mustard.

I only had a bite, but it was soooooo good.

I was saving myself for Kappacasein’s Three Cheese Toastie.

Look at those babies all stacked up ready to be toasted into molten perfection.

They stuff them with onions, leeks and 3 types of cheese.

Hands down the best toastie i’ve had in my life. I even have to admit they are better than my favourite Mushroom and Gouda Toasties.

To make these at home, here’s their recipe.

The mister had the idea that sauerkraut would assist in the digestion of so.much.food so he went off in search of some.

He returned with some topped on a Boston Sausage Hot Dog.

Not quite sure he got the point as this looks more bread & sausage than sauerkraut?

On the way out, we spied the Rainha Santa Roasted Hog.

I couldn’t fit another bite, so I just spent a minute looking at it longingly.

Look at that perfectly crispy crackling!

I only had a tiny space left over for a slice of dessert. We had so many good to choose from.

I went with the blueberry cheesecake from Artisan Foods.

Shortly after it started to pour, so we ran over to The George. Established in the 1600’s, the pub is over 3 times the age of my hometown.

Of course as soon as we arrived, the weather turned, so we were able to sit out in the garden.

But it didnt last long, so we took cover inside. I loved the traditional decor with old creaky stairs.

After a few hours we worked up an appetite again and headed back into the markets for round 2.

The Roasted Hog was first on our hit list. You can have it with or without bread. Both looked delicious.

The crackling was to die for.

Then we spied Scotch Eggs by Scotchtails, so picked up one of those.

I did also really want to try the British Pie with Mash but I just couldn’t fit it in. Next time.

This is the Pumpkin Tortellini.

And the Pesto Gnocchi.

Probably the best pasta I’ve eaten in a while!

You can even buy some to take home (which we did).

We were all in desperate need of hydration when we spotted Organic Life, serving their Organic Ice Tea. It was subtly sweet stuffed with loads of fresh lemon and mint, it’s a perfect refresher.

We shared one between us. Words can’t describe the delicious-ness of this baby.

Although I didn’t actually buy anything from here, I loved the look of the  Arabica Food & Spice Company. How delicious to their range of middle eastern sweets look?

Don’t forget you can actually do your weekly groceries here with loads of fresh produce suppliers, but I will warn you, you WILL over-shop and it might be rather exxy.

On our way home, I spotted Gelateria 3Bis. I remember being told they had the best gelato in London, so naturally I had to try.

You can choose from all the flavours behind the bar.

I went with Hazlenut and Marscapone & Figs. They were both so delicious.

I have to admit I was a pretty happy gal to finish the day with an ice cream after a trip to foodie heaven.
