This banana and nutmeg frozen smoothie bowl is a delicious way to cool down this summer. Made with frozen bananas with a kick of nutmeg, it’s creamy, spicy + oh so delicious!
It’s been saaaaaahhhhh hot in Canberra over the Summer. I think I feel it more because I am always in jeans (nothing else fits), we don’t have aircon + my oven is continuously on due to my mid hospital bake sessions. I love Canberra weather for all but the 6 hottest weeks of the year.
To cool down I made this frozen smoothie bowl as an afternoon treat and also because I wanted to practice styling various types of dishes, AND any excuse to use my Kim Wallace ceramic plates (this is not a sponsored post – I just LOVE her stuff). Various pieces were on my Secret Santa wishlist and the rest I bought myself so now I have a setting for FOUR people for 2016 dinner parties. Woot! Who wants to come over?
I am getting really really really into plateware, flatware and NAPKINS at the moment. I just spent an shameful amount of money to get some flatware from CB2 (subsidiary of Crate and Barrell) in America. But seriously this and this? SWOON.
Anyway that’s enough about that, I could post links all day but then my husband would know the depths of my insanity (
and spending) so i’ll leave it at that.
I think you’ll love this recipe because it’s creamy, spicy, subtly sweet and FROZEN. Perfect for a hot summer’s day treat.

What you need:
- High speed blender
Ingredients (makes 2):
- 2 bananas, frozen
- 1 – 1 + 1/2 cups your choice of milk (I used almond) – the less you use the more thick and creamy it will be
- 3-4 tablespoons pure maple syrup (depending on how sweet you like it)
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1 tablespoon flax seeds
- 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (use less if you don’t like a strong flavour)
- Pinch sea salt
1. Blend all the ingredients in a high speed blender until smooth.
2. Pour, top with dark chocolate or your favourite toppings and enjoy!
