Chai Spiced Breakfast Cream {Vegan, RSF}

This chai spiced breakfast cream is a decadent way to start your day. A frozen cream made from banana, oats, nuts, flaxseeds + spices, it’s nutritious and simple to throw together on your way out the door!

Since having a little bubba, time has become precious in our household. Mornings have never been my thing and it’s no different now. My benevolent hubby does the early morning feed, giving me a chance to catch up on zzzz’s after doing the night time feeds. Even so, it usually takes me a good hour to become human and wake up properly. This means elaborate breakfasts are never an option.

I came up with this recipe when playing with quick, healthy and summer-friendly breakfasts I could whizz up in between feeding, settling, expressing and cleaning up inordinate amounts of vomit (my baby is a serious chucker) from countless surfaces around the house. You’ll love that it can be thrown together in under 3 minutes and is so thick and creamy, it’s so much more satisfying than a smoothie.

I love the spicy addition the chia makes but feel free to throw in your favourite nuts and spices to mix it up. I am thinking I will make a matcha green tea one next, I can imagine it will turn out rather pretty.

What you need:

  • High speed blender

Ingredients (makes 2 serves):

  • 3/4 cup milk of choice (I used almond)
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1 banana, frozen
  • 1 tablespoon flax seed oil
  • 1/4 cup mixed nuts (I used hazelnuts + walnuts)
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon flax seeds
  • 2 teaspoons chia tea powder (I used the Arkadia brand)

Method:

1. Mix all the ingredients in a high speed blender.

2. Serve alone, sprinkled with oats or with fresh fruit.
